WWE Raw - 23/04/2007


-I have to be honest. Yesterday, I felt like shit all day. I didn’t get any sleep the previous night, and that, coupled with the Gravol I took to combat a nauseous stomach, I was really, really tired when RAW aired. I’ll try my best to reflect a show on that my body was trying to make me sleep through. I did it for you people.


-For the second week in a row, RAW airs from Europe. This week, it’s England. At least the fans in England aren’t so weird.


-To start the match off, Shane McMahon challenges some (I can only assume) local talent, which, really, is nothing more than a glorified squash. Vince looks absolutely ridiculous in a bowler hat.


-AH, good ol’ fashioned melodramatic video recaps, even though Michaels v. Cena I happened not too long ago. Also, the dramatic music was really trying to coax me into sleeping.


-Seriously, did Trevor Murdoch try to attempt the Canadian Destroyer? Trevor… No. Just, no. I kind of like how WWE Creative handled promoting this feud between Cade and Murdoch vs the Hardy Boys. Cade and Murdoch win a Number One Contender’s Match, and go on to square off against the Hardys in singles matches. Kind of reminiscent of that LOGICAL PRO WRESTLING BOOKING they used to do, a while ago.


-HOLY SHIT! IT’S MARIA… AND SHE’S… WALKING BACKSTAGE! RATINGS SPIKE!! Oh, she’s facing Melina. Hey, does anyone remember that stretch of time, about a year or so ago, when JR just could not tell the difference between Melina and Maria? Just me, eh?


-Edge vs Randy Orton? TONIGHT? Unless this was taped before Randy Orton went apeshit in a hote… I MEAN, contracted some sort of virus, I don’t see this one happening.


-You know, and this actually happened, I was watching Melina vs Maria, and I thought to myself “Hey, this is a watchable match so far, I just hope they don’t end it too soon.” Wouldn’t I know it, not 3 seconds after I processed that thought, BAM, Melina wins with an awkward facejam, totally ruining the match.


-Hey, I like matches that last over two minutes, alright?


-Flair encounters Carlito in the back… but I can’t hear what they’re talking about, because English Wrestling fans are FUCKING RUDE AND SCREAM SO LOUD, THEY DROWN OUT THE DIOLOGUE. Oh, Carlito is apparently facing The Tall Khali? Fuck.


-Carlito vs Khali was like a 13 Year Old in a Lingerie Store: INCREDIBILY awkward. I think Khali may have botched several sequences in that match, but wins, because he’s TALL. Post-Match, Carlito screams at Flair in Spanish, and Flair is confused….


-Ok, time to go off on a tangent. Wasn’t it Flair who, several months ago, went off on an Old Geezer tangent on Carlito for “Not Caring” about wrestling? And now he’s SUDDENLY bewildered and shocked that Carlito is getting pissed off when he loses matches? Plot Hole, perhaps?


-I like Foley. I like Edge. I like Edge and Foley together. However, was there really any reason to air that Foley-Edge segment? Really, what did it do?


-Shawn Michaels is wandering backstage, and encounters one John Cena, who engages him in a small, yet aksward conversation. Shawn Michaels gets his chance to leave, when his theme music plays. I wish I could break off conversations like that.


-Holy shit…. MICHAELS AND CENA WENT A FULL FUCKING HOUR! And it was a decent match, too! Seriously, the whole thing, from the watchable wrestling, to JR hyping the effectiveness of Michaels’ and Cena’s finishers (especially the move Cena beat Michaels with at WrestleMania), to the ring psychology, this match actually felt like a big deal. They tore the house down by doing what I want to see…WRESTLING.


-Wow… This show was actually decent, from an old-school wrestling standpoint. Sure, we had the useless opening segment, and the One-Minute Women’s match forever, plus the TALL Khali, however, it was countered by the ONE HOUR PPV QUALITY Main Event. Why couldn’t I have been sick for LAST week’s RAW?


-Finally, I have to mention this. In the crowd, I saw a “FRUITY DELICIOUS FRUITY FRUITY FRUITY SKITTLES” sign. Seriously, Don’t encourage JR.
