Plot summary:

Aladdin (or Al to his friends) lives in the ghetto district of Agrabah, jewel of the Arabian sands. He steals to survive, and with the help of his monkey accomplice Abu, has become quite skilled at it. One day, he happens upon Princess Jasmine, who has decided to spend the day "slumming" with the townsfolk. He falls in love, of course, but knows that he doesn't have the "bling-bling" neccessary to woo a girl like Jasmine.

Eventually, fate leads him to the Cave of Wonders, where he finds an old seemingly innocuous lamp. Inside is a magical (and possibly gay) Genie, who turns Aladdin into Prince Ali Ababwa in an attempt to woo the Princess's heart. In the end, he learns that being himself (and incessantly sappy song numbers) are the real way to a woman's heart... Well, that and defeating giant snakes, magic flying anthropomorphic carpets, and crazy blue men who spout pop-culture references like a Pentecostal e/n writer with Tourette's Syndrome. (more)

User Comments: Aladdin is portrayed as a bright, resourceful, street-smart kid whose only disadvantage is his social standing, as evidenced by his ratty, early 90's mainstream rapper garage sale attire. And yet he repeatedly makes bad judgment calls and steps right into dangerous situations without a care. Take his wishes, for example. The Genie tells him he can't wish for more wishes. Fine. But why does he never think of wishing to become a human with the power to grant his OWN wishes, hmm?  Because we would've ended up with a very short movie that didn't need Robin Williams, that's why. The Genie tells him he can't bring people back from the dead, but why doesn't he wish to go back in time to prevent his mother from ever dying in the first place? Because he only thinks two dimensionally. I hope he never ends up being trapped in the Mutara Nebula, because any captain worth his salt will be able to sneak right up behind him and plant a photon torpedo in his ass. Let's see him wish his way out of that.
