Plot summary:

Jafar was the royal advisor to the Sultan of Agrabah, which I suppose was Disney's PC replacement for Baghdad, considering the fact that we'd just bombed the shit out of it the year before this movie came out. Jafar sought to have the magic lamp, so that he could rule the world. But he couldn't do so himself, for the cave of wonders just gobbled up any old men he sent in... he needed a "diamond in the rough," a young, strong bucking young Arab, like Aladdin, to plow deep into his cave of wonders... God that sounds so gay...  (more)

User Comments:

Jafar's probably one of Disney's most outlandish villains, because he so well played on the American mindset of the time. He was the evil Arab, there to vanquish the equally Arab (but fully American-sounding) hero Aladdin. He was unnaturally skinny, with dark, slitted eyes, and thin, skeletal fingers. Plus his gnarly, twisted goatee looked like my old man's ear hair. Face it, he was drawn to be disgusting. The fact that he later turns into a giant cobra, a symbol of Satan, thus implying that Arabs are of the DEBUHL, did nothing for Disney's standing in the Arab community. And yet people wonder why the Magic Kingdom's been declared a no-fly zone.
