Cricket (1940)
Animal
Outfit: Top Hat / Tails Tagline: "When you wish upon a star, your dreams come true..." Plot summary: Jiminy is a cricket... A cricket who dresses like a 19th century British commoner, but is one of the supporting characters from a fable set in 17th century Italy... Yeah. And he speaks with a mid-western American accent... This is one culturally ambiguous insect. He is chosen by the Blue Fairy to be the conscience of Pinocchio, a puppet brought to life who wants to be a real boy. There's no other way to say it, Jiminy does a pretty lousy job. Think about it, most boys Pinocchio's "age" have already shoved fish hooks through the heads of hundreds of crickets by then. Who actually thought Pinocchio would listen to the advice of a nicely-dressed piece of bait? (more) User Comments: I for one am still not convinced that Jiminy is actually a cricket. He looks more like someone ripped off Mickey Mouse's head and stuck an olive in its place. And I've never seen Jiminy rub his hind legs together to play music, have you? No, he whistles. If crickets actually whistled, I'd have already jammed a hook through my thumb out of shock by now. And what's with his clothes? He looks like that gay British guy who used to host Masterpiece Theater. I bet Jiminy's living in San Francisco right now with a waterbug named Raul. Hey Jiminy! Are all fairies blue, or is that just what they do? I'm a poet and didn't know it! User Rating:
