Plot summary: During the first public presentation of the newborn Princess Aurora, the evil sorceress Maleficent appears, angered by her lack of an invitation. As her "gift" to the newborn, she places a curse. On the night of her 16th birthday, she shall prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel and die.

The good fairies attempt to thwart this plot by altering the curse, changing death to a deep, unending sleep, broken only by the magic of true love's first kiss.

Despite their best efforts, Aurora does indeed prick her finger on her 16th birthday and falls into a deep sleep. Prince Philip, whom she met and fell in love with in the woods, mounts his steed and rushes to the tower in which she sleeps. There, Maleficent waits for him. She changes herself into a mighty black dragon. Just when it seems that she will prevail, the good fairy Flora appears and enchants his sword with a spell:

Now sword of truth fly swift and sure,
That evil die and good endure!

 

The sword flies, and pierces Maleficent's heart. She collapses in a ball of green flame, and then flies up to Heaven and becomes a star alongside Draco. (more) 

User Comments: I have to give it to her, Maleficent's got a popular look. During Walt Disney World's Mickey's Not-So-Scary-Halloween Party, you see more women dressed as Maleficent than any other Disney character. But why? A plain black robe with purple satin underlining? Skin greener than a slave woman on Star Trek? Eyeliner that would make Mimi take a step back? HORNS? 

Why did Maleficent care about Aurora at all? Was she simply just another evil woman jealous of a princess's beauty? The movie never gives any real hint as to her motivation. But if that's the case, wouldn't she be putting a little more time into her personal appearance? Maybe some hair dye and foundation? A LOT of foundation? My God, this woman has physical shortcomings than even the Swan Team couldn't overcome. So far as I can tell, her only hope of redemption is to sign up for Blind Date, and hope that she's matched with the Horned King from the Black Cauldron. Otherwise, she needs to swap her scepter and cloak for an acoustic guitar and some Birckenstocks and give it up already.
