Plot summary: Minnie has been faithfully at Mickey's side since Steam Boat Willie. She is spunky to the point of nausea, her voice being of a pitch that might've occurred naturally had Betty Boop and Beaker from the Muppet Show ever had kids.

Her loyalty to Mickey is unparalleled. She has been with him for 76 years, and yet still doesn't have a ring on her finger, nor even an illegitimate mouseling to show for it. Hell, they don't even live together, instead living just a couple of houses apart, where they can be close, but still allow Mickey to live under the illusion that he's a free-wheeling bachelor.

In the 76 years of their relationship, there has been only one other suitor to come along and try to woo her from Mickey's side (if you don't count the attempted kidnapper/rapist Peg Leg Pete) and that is none other than Mortimer Mouse (though it is now believed that Mortimer is actually a cleverly disguised rat.) Otherwise, Minnie's only consistent adversary for Mickey's affections is his dog Pluto, which in itself is disturbing on any number of levels. (more)

User Comments: Mickey's lack of commitment is probably the most direct reason for Minnie's conservative fashion sense. Her penchant for polka-dotted dresses, matching hair bows, and ultra-wide high-heeled shoes (a not so subtle attempt to cover up the fact that she's caught the gout from Mickey, a by-product of 76 years of playing footsie that never went anywhere) is well-documented. What isn't is that, when the two first met, she was more of a liberated woman, preferring to actually walk around topless in public. Here, see for yourself:

This "let it all hang out" lifestyle clashed with Mickey's neo-conservatism, so she eventually acquiesced and added a blouse to her simple skirt ensemble, perhaps showing that she wasn't as much of a free spirit as she'd let on, but was merely trying to lure Mickey in with a sense of the provocative that didn't actually exist. It also prevented her from having a successful solo career, appearing as a co-star in Mickey's films until 2001, when she finally filmed a few solo shorts of her own for Mickey's House of Mouse show. Yet Mickey's grasp on her heart is still firm, evidenced by the fact that, though she's now on cable, she still won't take off her blouse.
