Plot summary:  

Riku lives on Tattoine Destiny Island with his best friends Sora and Kairi. They lead a peaceful, happy existance, and couldn't want for more. Except he does. He longs to know what lies beyond his island home. He longs for something new. One night, something happens. The island is overtaken by small, black creatures. As Sora fights them off, Riku, enchanted, walks out into their midst and vanishes into a black void. And Sora follows after him. 

As Sora fights to save him (along with his new friends Goofy and Donald Duck,) Riku is slowly consumed by the hatred of those who have found him, and by his own jealousy towards Sora's relationship with Kairi. Led by the evil sorceress Maleficent, he embraces this darkness, gives in to his hatred, and grows powerful beyond measure. In the end, he turns on Sora and faces him in hand to hand combat. But Sora prevails, pushing him into a lava pit. Riku is rescued by Senator Palpatine, and what is left of his body in enhanced by a cybernetic suit. He is rechristened Darth Rinther, and begins his swath of revenge across the galaxy. Then Sora becomes friends with the Gummy Bears and kicks his ever-loving ass on the moon of Endor. (more)

User Comments: Don't get me wrong, I think Kingdom Hearts is hands down just about the best overall video game experience I've ever had. But there's no getting around it. Aside from his decidedly Sephiroth-inspired looks, Riku is a thinly veiled Anakin Skywalker. He was easily my least favorite character in the game, next to the gummy ship, which quickly became my pro-drug.
